My obsession with the landscape leads me to create compositions of isolated moments of time at various skate parks throughout California. My fascination is in the anonymous, transient nature of skaters as they sail past us. I seek to heighten their presence in our landscape by celebrating each individual skater’s dedication to practice. As countless unsung heroes take skateboarding to new heights, the famous and the undiscovered alike hone their sport together. They challenge, support and teach one another within the confines of their culture, while adding music to the concrete jungle.
There is a true sense of community present inside the skatepark that is a refreshing contrast to our somewhat anonymous, media-obsessed society.
Through the medium of oil paint on canvas, I seek to create dynamic compositions of contemporary thought. I want to shed a new light on a subject in our urban landscape, that celebrates and identifies the West Coast.
